Birthdays and Freedom!

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. ~Galatians 5:1

This has been a week of birthdays. We celebrated my dad’s 77th birthday on Monday by indulging in all-American, fully loaded, “big gun burgers”! Tuesday, I had the joy of helping a younger woman plan her daughter’s 7th butterfly birthday party! And today our nation is 237 years young, when compared to other countries around the globe.

Birthdays can bring with them a sense of freedom to hope that this year will be better than the past. Both physical and spiritual births, mark a freedom from our old reality and the possibility of a whole new one.

I pray that next year we celebrate another year of my father being cancer-free. Whenever I see a butterfly flying, I hope I will let my adult fears fly away so I can freely live by the faith of a 7 year old. And for another 237 years, I hope America a nation of liberty where people can celebrate daily the reality that it is for freedom that Christ set them free!

How are you called to pray today…for others…for our nation?
What new reality is God inviting you to celebrate?
