New Doors

Pray diligently. Stay alert, with your eyes wide open in gratitude.
Don’t forget to pray for us, that God will open doors for telling the mystery of Christ, even while I’m locked up in this jail.
Pray that every time I open my mouth I’ll be able to make Christ plain as day to them.

~Colossians 4:2-4 (The Message)

I just had new closet doors installed in my home. The old doors seemed fine and functional to me, but my husband was tired of closing the old ones that folded in and out. Probably because he takes the time to  close the doors I habitually leave open around the house.

Last week, I also participated in a prayer vigil and was reminded that we are invited to have an open posture when praying. We praised God. We prayed for the doors of our hearts and of our church to be open to sharing the mystery of Christ in our community. We gave thanks to God for the way his story intersects with our stories.

As I look around at the new doors in my house, I wonder if there is a new habit of prayer I am being called to be open to. I wonder what doors in your life and mine need to be closed so that each time we open our mouths Christ is revealed, plain as day.

Let’s spend a few moments devoting ourselves to praying for one another (Ps. 19:14):

May these words of our mouths
and this meditation of our hearts
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Amen and amen.

Thank you for the reminder that our hearts be open to God’s grace so we can be open to the needs of others. I recently read that Grace is undeserved mercy. I love that.
