Power to Surrender All

For over two weeks, I have been dealing with power issues. First it was the pickup. How frustrating not being able to control the power that would randomly switch from
2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive.

Then it was the house. At first we were awakened “on and off” all night by lights shining in our eyes and the whirl of the overhead fan. One day It took an hour to complete the 28 minute cycle on the washing machine. Eventually, the power stopped flickering “off” when we had it “on” and started flickering “on” after turning itself completely “off.” It made not sense.

The day, I got in the pick-up and found the engine light on again, was the day I realized my engine light was on too. I am completely powerless, have no control, over even modern conveniences. Moreover, the Lord seemed to be saying to me what he once said to Zerubbabel, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).”

The Holy Spirit is truly inviting me to surrender daily…to surrender all! So I have spent time reflecting on the words to the hymn by that title:

All to Jesus I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

Refrain:
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!

Gracious God, fill us and bless us with the Son’s love and power to surrender all…by your Spirit, Amen and amen.
